Friends of Father Paolo Dall’Oglio in Lebanon and Syria invite you to a gathering, 1 year after his disappearance in Raqqa (Syria). We have not forgotten you, Abuna Paolo! You are a friend of Islam, a conscience for Syria and a saint of our times. We ask the kidnappers to release Abuna Paolo at the occasion of the Eid al-Fitr, exactly one year after they took him from us. Bring justice and peace to Syria!
Inspired by Abuna Paolo, volunteers from around the world are working in Akkar (North Lebanon) for giving a future to the youth both from Syria and Lebanon. They decided to mark the kidnapping of Abuna Paolo with a novena from 21 to 29 July. Christians and volunteers of other convictions joined their Muslim friends in the Ramadan fast: Sunnis, Shiites, Alawites, Druze, Maronites, Orthodox, Catholics and Protestants, living and working under the same roof.
Everyone can join the vigil the 29th, with a candle or without. Prayers, texts and portraits of Paolo are welcome. We wish to keep politics out of this event, as it is purely human and spiritual. We would like to ask all those attending to respect this wish.

Ce 29 juillet, à l’occasion du premier anniversaire de l’enlèvement du Père Paolo Dall’Oglio en Syrie, nous nous rassemblerons en silence, pour exprimer nos pensées envers lui et tous les autres détenus de Syrie.
Notre rassemblement se veut un geste pour la paix et la liberté, en Syrie et dans la région.
Chacun peut venir avec une bougie, un portrait du Père Paolo ou d’autres détenus. Pas de bannières, pas de drapeaux, pas de slogans politiques.
Bienvenue à chacun.

Tuesday July 29th it’s exactly one year ago that Father Paolo Dall’Oglio was kidnapped in Al-Raqqa Syria.
We come together that evening at Coninckplein square Antwerp to express our solidarity with Paolo and all the captured and missing in Syria.
Among them were journalists, photographers and human rights activists,such as Razan Zaitouneh and her colleagues called Douma4 who peacefully gave a shape to the revolution. This silent vigil would also be a call, a call for the release of all those who are illegally detained,
a call for the end of violence and achieving peace, a call to action by the international community to held the Assad regime responsible and stop them, and to convict all who are guilty of human rights violations and the law of war. We gather Tuesday night at 20:30 on Coninckplein. Be sure to bring along a candle.

Syrien: Mehr als eine Million geflohene Kinder und die Toten kann die UN schon nicht mehr zählen. Pater Paolo Dall’Oglio, der Jesuit, der unsere NGO Relief and Reconciliation for Syria seit dem Anfang unterstützt, widmet seit 30 Jahren sein Leben dem Dialog mit Muslimen – und den Menschen in Syrien. Kaum ein Mensch ist so hoch geschätzt bei Christen und Muslimen wie er. Wie man Hoffnung an Orte bringt, die hoffnungslos erscheinen – das ist es, was „Abuna Paolo“ umtreibt. Am 29. Juli 2013 ließ er sich in die Zentrale von ISIS, Syriens radikalster militärischer Gruppierung, bringen, um dort für Frieden und die Herausgabe von Gefangenen zu verhandeln. Seither fehlt jede Nachricht von ihm.
Am 29. Juli 2014 – genau ein Jahr nach seinem Verschwinden – werden Menschen in Paris, Brüssel, Suleymaniah (Irak), Beirut, Rom, Dubai, Qatar, Genf und London an ihn erinnern.Auch wir laden an diesem Tag (Dienstag, den 29.07.2014) um 19 Uhr zu einer Andacht in die Akademiekirche St. Thomas von Aquin ein, um für ihn und alle Leidtragenden des Krieges und für den Frieden in Syrien zu bitten. Christen, Muslime und Nichtglaubende sind herzlich eingeladen.
